2012 Honda Civic Recalled for Fuel Line Defect

19 May, 2011

Consumers in the market for a new Honda Civic may want to hold off because the car is in the midst of a recall. Honda Motor Co. announced on Thursday that it would be recalling over one thousand vehicles due to a fuel line defect.

According to the automaker, a manufacturing error created a defect in the Civic’s fuel line. As a result, the car could leak fuel in the 1,156 cars affected. The company said that though the defect has been brought to their attention, there has been no report of major issues like injuries or fires.

The 2012 Civic went on sale earlier this spring and many have not been sold yet. For those that have been sold, the automaker will pay for repairs for free. Honda plans to issue notices on May 27 to alert owners of the car’s issues, but customers can also visit the company’s website to determine whether their vehicle will need the repairs.

Honda said it would also be repairing all of the vehicles that remain on dealer lots.

When taking out a new car loan, you have plenty of considerations to make, including whether the car has a good reputation, suitable warranty and, of course, comes at a reasonable price.

Those who are considering a car that has been in the midst of a recall have even more to think about. Is the car safe? Has the issue been fixed? Will the car have other problems down the line? Because there are often more questions than answers in relation to an auto recall, many people choose to steer clear of a car with a history of issues.

However, it’s good to note that often, recalls are initiated by the automaker as in this circumstance with Honda. The automaker may see an issue and want to take precautionary measures before someone gets hurt. In this case, it doesn’t mean that the car or automaker can’t be trusted. It just means that, as with any car you purchase, you should proceed with caution.
