Summer job openings this year on par with 2009
Locating part-time work is one way consumers can help control some of their credit card debt issues while adding more money to their savings accounts.
Traditionally, the summer offers people, especially younger consumers, a chance to earn additional income. However, a recent report from CareerBuilder.com noted that job availability for the warmer months of 2010 will be about the same as 2009.
Of employers surveyed by the company, 22 percent said they would add more seasonal employees in the coming months, a number that is comparable to what was seen in 2009.
“Fifteen percent of employers say they are planning to hire the same amount of summer workers as last year, while 5 percent plan to add fewer,” CareerBuilder said.
Having some sort of employment has become even more important for consumers who are trying to get credit cards, as new federal regulations require that issuers consider a person’s income and ability to pay before granting an account.
The Credit Card Accountability, Responsibility and Disclosure Act also makes people under 21 find a co-signer for a card account unless they can prove they have the means with which to support having credit.
